Wealth Redefined: Fire, Ice, and the Art of the Pivot
Our Red Light Sauna at our Norton Shores location.
In 2020, Natalie and I were standing on a yoga deck I had built with my own hands, overlooking the lush canopy of the Belizean jungle. We had successfully launched Belize Jungle Yoga, turning a lifetime of movement and mindfulness into a sanctuary for others. We were living the dream we had engineered.
Then, the world stopped.
Within weeks, the borders closed. The final payment from the sale of our Indiana studio, money we were counting on to survive, never arrived. Deposits were returned. Flights were grounded. We were stranded in a foreign country with our children, watching our "perfect" life dissolve into the humidity.
It was the ultimate "Cold Plunge." And it taught us everything we needed to know about the art of the pivot.
The Wisdom of the Extremes
At Body Haus Lifestyle Club, we are known for our contrast therapies; the intentional move from the intense heat of an infrared sauna to the bone-chilling clarity of a cold plunge. To the uninitiated, it looks like a physical challenge. To us, it is a metaphor for life.
When you submerge yourself in 45-degree water, your body screams to get out. Your breath shortens. Your mind panics. But if you can stay, if you can breathe through the shock, something miraculous happens. Your nervous system recalibrates. You find a stillness that exists only on the other side of discomfort.
The pivot we had to make in Belize was no different. We went from being "successful entrepreneurs" to living in a small village in Rancho Dolores, fishing the river and raising our own food just to get by. We were down to our last bag of beans, but we were learning a different kind of strength.
Resilience is a Practice
You don’t build resilience when things are easy. You build it when the "For Sale" sign goes up in front of your business (as it did for us later in Michigan), or when your plans are scorched by circumstances beyond your control.
The Fire: Represents the heat of ambition, the intensity of our Pilates practice, and the friction of growth. It purifies.
The Ice: Represents the stillness, the recovery, and the ability to remain "Grace Under Pressure", one of our core brand pillars.
We realized that a rich life requires both. You cannot have the expansion of the heat without the contraction of the cold.
Mastering the Pivot
When we finally returned to the Midwest and eventually founded Body Haus, we didn't do it because we wanted a "financial portfolio play." We did it because we knew that the world was full of people feeling exactly like we did in that jungle: scattered, stressed, and looking for a way to reset.
We brought the fire (Heated Mat Pilates) and the ice (Cold Plunge) together in one house because life demands that you be able to handle both. We teach our members to use these tools to sharpen their minds and strengthen their spirits, so that when life throws a curveball, they don't just survive—they pivot with grace.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to the temperature.
Are you training for the pivot? Join us in the sauna and the plunge this week to find your edge.
